Spike in Crime Blamed for Increased Caution

A recent spike of criminal activity in Baja California had little impact on attendance at the Mexico Travel and Real Estate Expo, which drew about 750 people and 60 exhibitors. Since summer 2007, an onslaught of crimes against visitors in the Baja area has had a major effect on businesses there, with reported decreases in tourism as low as 50 percent in some areas.
